![]() It works out great and I love it, but the series has yet to touch the cultural nerve that it would need to be popular and I don't think it will in the current anime/manga climate. While I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with any of the anime/manga I mentioned, Dungeon Meshi seems to be somewhere in the middle: It's a little more methodical and world-heavy like the first two, the food and cooking are amazing but doesn't carry much popular appeal, and the fantasy vibe seems more classic D&D than modern escapist fantasy and doesn't contain much fan service. Isekai and Fantasy have been really hot recently, but a lot of the well known ones are very action/comedy oriented and contain a decent amount of fan service (Re:zero, Reincarnated as a Slime, and Shield Hero come to mind). Series that focus on food now seem to have a crowd of their own, but also do not seem to be very popular (Food Wars I think came closest). ![]() ![]() The slower pace and focus on the environment remind me a lot of Yuru camp and Girl's Last Tour, neither of which became very popular despite having a decent following. Delicious in Dungeon, also known as Dungeon Meshi, is an ongoing manga written and illustrated by Ryko Kui, first published in 2014, that focuses on. This is all my opinion, so please take it with a grain of salt: I think it is the things that make Dungeon Meshi great that also keep it from being very popular. ![]()
